BrightonSEO 2026: AI Enmeshment Has Replaced Confused Panic

A speaker presents on stage at brightonSEO San Diego, with banners and an audience in a conference room.

BrightonSEO once again delivered an incredible, high-energy turnout. Between catching up with old friends, meeting new faces, and swapping stories at our booth in the exhibition hall, one thing was clear: not only did AI not wipe out the SEO industry, it has transformed and enriched it for the better.

Straight from Booth 22 in the Expo Hall

Working the booth gave us a real-time pulse on what search marketers are prioritizing right now. A few key themes kept coming up throughout conversations:

  • From Curiosity to Actionable Strategy: We’ve shifted from “what is GEO/AEO?” to “how do we measure this and deploy it to drive revenue?” Search marketers are actively collaborating to identify reliable metrics, proven frameworks, and clear execution plans to scale AI visibility. Many CMOs still don’t know where to start in scouting a course towards traffic and leads from AI sources, and small to medium brands have the advantage when it comes to process flexibility.
  • Data Discrepancy Frustration: A recurring pain point among e-commerce teams was the gap between what lives on their website versus what AI models and feed platforms like Google Merchant Center parse. Marketers know data is fragmented, and they’re hungry for fast fixes. Attribution is a thorn in everyone’s side, and as the visibility goals of marketing teams take shape the ability to gauge progress continues to be a moving target.
  • Cross-Department Silos: SEO managers are working hard to promote cross-department collaboration – aligning product teams, digital PR, local operations and IT around a unified brand narrative that AI crawlers can actually understand is paramount to success. SEOs can no longer work in a silo chasing keywords, we need to function deeply embedded within a larger marketing system or risk limiting our impact.

Key Insights from Talks We Attended

When we weren’t chatting it up at our booth, we sat in on some amazing talks covering SEO, AI search, content, analytics and more. Here are some key insights we took away.

Corroboration is the new buzzword

Search is shifting rapidly, and the discovery funnel customers follow to find brands has fundamentally collapsed in a few short years. We moved from search-led to AI-assisted to AI-curated and now towards agentic experiences. Controlling what is on your website only covers a fraction of what AI engines use to form answers. Corroboration is the new ranking factor. AI engines validate claims across 3rd-party directories, review sites, media outlets, and best-of listicles before recommending a brand. This means brands who pull ahead are the ones auditing third-party accuracy to build web-wide consensus.

One particularly compelling speaker asked: “If your website disappeared off the internet tomorrow, what would AI bots be able to understand about your brand from other sources? Would your digital profile look the same?”

The Way to Win is to Give AI All the Data

Large Language Models (LLMs) answer questions in context. In yesteryear, we overdepended on ratings and reviews. With the rise of LLMs, what’s best for everyone in context is different. Brands don’t get to choose what facts AI pulls about them into a response to a user query. The way to win is to make accurate granular-level data available constantly. Brands that consistently win go far beyond typical effort on local data, schema, reviews, use cases, FAQs and other elements.

Product Feed Optimization

For e-commerce, talks centered around optimizing product feeds. Ensuring data consistency across product detail pages (PDPs), structured data markup, and Google Merchant Center feeds fosters trust in search algorithms. Search marketers are thinking not only about the user experience, but increasingly the AI agent experience.

SEO Fundamentals Are Alive

Although GEO brings new tactical execution strategies, many of the fundamentals remain. AI engines and search crawlers are consumers of structured data and renderable HTML. If your site suffers from broken architecture or heavy client-side Javascript rendering, AI bots will miss your content just as traditional Googlebots did.

E-E-A-T isn’t obsolete, it has simply expanded. High-quality backlinks, brand mentions, brand citations and digital PR efforts build authority for AI engines just as they do for traditional search engines. Clear, consistent content and storytelling, corroborated across the web, is central to helping consumers, search and AI engines understand your brand.

Putting Insights into Action

We return to the office excited to take these macro trends and learnings back to the team and to our clients. The search landscape is changing rapidly, but the mission remains the same: connect real people with trusted, accurate answers.

AI search has elevated the game. Winning isn’t about gaming an algorithm or chasing every shiny new feature; it’s about building a brand narrative so clear, consistent and well-corroborated that no AI engine can afford to ignore it.

A massive thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, swapped stories with us at the Boardwalk Bash or our SERP & Turf event. Until next time, Brighton!

Your buyers are already asking AI who to trust. Let's make sure they find you.
